A Rare Manifestation of Cysticercosis Infestation
There are many causes of urticaria, which may vary from infections to malignancy. Among the infections, infestations by cysticercosis (larval stage of the tapeworm called Taenia solium) is an important cause. The present report is of forty four years old female who presented with urticaria and swelling on face. The swelling was later diagnosed as cysticercosis by noninvasive ultrasonography. The urticaria subsided after the treatment of cysticercosis. We report this case for rarity of its presentation. Key words: cysticercosis, chronic urticaria, Taenia solium, ultrasonograph
Molecular Signaling Network and Therapeutic Developments in Breast Cancer Brain Metastasis
Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers in women worldwide. It has surpassed lung cancer as the leading cause of cancer-related death. Breast cancer brain metastasis (BCBM) is becoming a major clinical concern that is commonly associated with ER-ve and HER2+ve subtypes of BC patients. Metastatic lesions in the brain originate when the cancer cells detach from a primary breast tumor and establish metastatic lesions and infiltrate near and distant organs via systemic blood circulation by traversing the BBB. The colonization of BC cells in the brain involves a complex interplay in the tumor microenvironment (TME), metastatic cells, and brain cells like endothelial cells, microglia, and astrocytes. BCBM is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality and presents a challenge to developing successful cancer therapy. SpiroMask: Measuring Lung Function Using Consumer-Grade Masks
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 235 million people suffer
from respiratory illnesses and four million people die annually due to air
pollution. Regular lung health monitoring can lead to prognoses about
deteriorating lung health conditions. This paper presents our system SpiroMask
that retrofits a microphone in consumer-grade masks (N95 and cloth masks) for
continuous lung health monitoring. We evaluate our approach on 48 participants
(including 14 with lung health issues) and find that we can estimate parameters
such as lung volume and respiration rate within the approved error range by the
American Thoracic Society (ATS). Further, we show that our approach is robust
